At the 2017 FINTECH awards, the winner for Financial Advice Innovator of the Year went to Map My Plan. We were especially thrilled, as we built their site. So who are Map My Plan, and why did they win?
In a nutshell, Map My Plan (or MMP for short) is the brainchild of Paul Feeney. All Paul wanted, was to make impartial financial planning available to any Australian who wanted it, rather than the more traditional demographic of those who could afford it. Oh yeah, and he wanted to make it fun and engaging, something that's so easy to achieve when you think about finances...
Due to the ever-changing legislation surrounding giving financial advice, the regulatory compliance and massively complicated interdependent formulas and algorithms, it was without a doubt the most complicated website we’re ever built, but we like a challenge!
2 years, a few hundred meetings, a few thousand formulas and some truly challenging development later, what Map My Plan have is the first truly impartial fully robotised financial advice platform in Australia.
The success of the build isn’t only evident from the award that was won, but from the overwhelming interest in the product from some of Australia’s biggest and most influential corporations and conglomerates.
Paul would be the first to admit it hasn’t been an easy journey (actually we might be the first, he could be the second), but it goes to show that if you have a great idea, a lot of conviction, interested investors, a strong partnership with your developers and some quite frankly incredible design and development resources (we’d be modest, but this is too cool a platform not to brag about building it), then you really can achieve anything.

Building on Shopify
If you've ever worked with most of the e-commerce platforms out there, you'll know it's virtually impossible to get the design you want to work seamlessly with the platform. Here's an example of where we hacked the Shopify platform to do just that.
